Let's build a miniature flat roof house with a front porch! This project is great for beginners and can be customized to your liking. We'll be using basic materials and tools.
Gather Your Supplies:
- Cardboard (various sizes)
- Ruler
- Pencil
- Scissors or craft knife (adult supervision required)
- Glue (hot glue gun works best, but craft glue will also work)
- Paint (optional)
- Paintbrushes (optional)
- Craft sticks (for porch)
- Sandpaper (optional, for smoothing edges)
Step 1: Plan and Cut the Walls Use the ruler and pencil to draw out the shapes of your walls on the cardboard. Consider these dimensions for a small house:
- Front: 6 inches wide x 4 inches tall
- Back: 6 inches wide x 4 inches tall
- Sides (2): 4 inches wide x 4 inches tall
Step 2: Assemble the Box Glue the sides to the front and back pieces to create a rectangular box. Make sure the edges line up as best as possible. Let the glue dry completely before moving on. Using a hot glue gun at this step will accelerate the build process.
Step 3: Create the Roof Cut out a piece of cardboard that is slightly larger than the top of the box (e.g., 7 inches wide x 5 inches deep). This will be your flat roof. Glue it securely to the top of the box. Allow to dry.
Step 4: Build the Porch Base Cut a piece of cardboard for the porch base. A good size might be 6 inches wide (same as the front of the house) and 2 inches deep. Glue this piece to the front of the house, extending outwards.
Step 5: Add Porch Supports Cut craft sticks to the desired height for the porch supports (e.g., 1 inch). Glue these vertically to the front edge of the porch base, spaced evenly apart. This will create the porch columns. You can optionally use small squares of cardboard as a base for the craft sticks to increase stability.
Step 6: Create a Porch Roof Cut a small piece of cardboard for the porch roof. This should be slightly larger than the porch base (e.g., 7 inches wide x 3 inches deep). Glue this to the top of the porch supports, creating a small overhang.
Step 7: Finishing Touches (Optional)
- Paint the house and porch in your desired colors.
- Add details like doors and windows using paint or extra cardboard pieces.
- Use sandpaper to smooth any rough edges.
You've now created a miniature flat roof house with a front porch! Feel free to customize it further with additional details and decorations. This project is a great starting point for more complex miniature building projects.
